Ian Mizon

Ian is an Entrepreneur, business strategist and motivational speaker who works with a clear ‘truth’ strategy. He has spent his career giving beneficial and honest advice to businesses that has helped them grow and develop for over 15 years. He partnered with Shirlaws in 2014 after showing a huge desire to introduce and implement the Shirlaws methodology in South Africa. He has resided in Cape Town since 2012 and has enjoyed some outstanding partnerships with Primedia and Media 24 here in South Africa.

After spending his early professional years working in media and marketing he worked as an International media consultant in the UK from 2002-2014. He made a huge contribution to the concept, execution and results of sales and management training models that produced over $90 million USD in incremental revenue over a 12 year period. He has worked all across South Africa, Australia and Europe, specializing in upskilling of professionals of every type and at every level. He enjoys total involvement with his clients and is a powerful strategist and coach.

Ian is from Cambridge in the UK and after many years of professional travel he is now happy to call South Africa his home. He has already established himself in the Cape’s business community.  A keen follower of sport, lover of Cape wine and a completely awful, but keen golfer.

It’s astounding how many businesses fail because of a lack of alignment and clarity on its vision. If you own your business with partners when was the last time you took time away from your business to discuss how you are all feeling about where the business is and where you want it to go? Has your partner’s vision changed? Are they aiming for the same targets as you are? How are they feeling about your staff and management team? Perhaps most importantly of all when was the last time you revisited exactly why you set the business up in the first place?

Revisiting and realigning with your partners is both a simple and crucial part of your business journey and something that should be discussed on a regular basis. Most of the thriving businesses I speak to have a common shared goal that they, and all of their team members are clear on. As soon as wires are crossed or the vision is severed, it’s rapidly damaging and causes frustration.

Shared vision is a powerful platform for growth and something I address with a business when I first engage with them. So once your vision is clear you want to grow your business of course? Growth and your understanding of what that means is something that you must also align with your partners. Last month, I spoke to a business owned by three people and asked them individually what is your definition of Growth. The MD said ‘more sales and clients’. The FD said ‘ Increasing profit’and the OD said ‘new machinery and product lines’. They hadn’t spoken to each other for two years about anything other than the day to day running of the business!

Communication with your partners is a resource for your business, free, easy and one of the most powerful Growth tools you have…
